The South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault is pleased and excited to announce Lobby Day 2009, to be held on March 12th, 2009 at the South Carolina Statehouse! As you are all aware, the economic crisis in the United States has placed a substantial burden upon the twenty-three direct service domestic and sexual assault programs across the state, at a time when demand for services is escalating. This unfortunate situation demands that we bring these critical issues to the forefront of the public policy arena. As constituents and advocates, we have the power to create change through the legislative process.
There is nothing more important to legislators than a visit or a call from a constituent! Your opinions and requests can actually influence the passage of needed legislation. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to call your representatives in both the House and Senate and schedule a meeting on March 12th. We've provided are a few pieces of important information that will make your experience with your Senators and Representatives as effective as possible. Additionally, click here to find some suggestions about what to say and do when meeting with your elected officials. Click here to see some sample thank you letters to legislators.
All members of SC General Assembly will be invited to a Legislative Breakfast the morning of March 12th, to be held from at 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. in Room 112 of the Blatt Building on the Statehouse grounds. All of your Senators and Representatives will be invited to the breakfast and given the opportunity to address attendees. See full agenda>>
Our goal is to educate and inform legislators on the issues of domestic and sexual violence, and to encourage their support of key legislation being considered during the 2009 session. More information on SCCADVASA's legislative priorities and relevant "talking points" will be forwarded to you prior to "Lobby Day". A pre lobby-day meeting with an option to participate via "Conference Call" will also be held Wednesday, March 11th to ensure that everyone is comfortable with the plans for Thursday.
We look forward to working with you on what we hope will become an annual event in South Carolina. Please feel free to contact the SCCADVASA office with any questions or concerns at 803-256-2900, ext.101. Thank you for your continued support!
Best Regards,
