South Carolina Women's Business Center client wins top national recognition!
Deborah Moore, President & CEO of AccuStat EMR, & the current US Small Business Administration (SBA) Small Business Person of the Year for the state of South Carolina, has been named the Second Runner-up at the national level. Every year the SBA gives recognition for the Nation’s Small Business Person of the Year. This is the first time a South Carolina business has been recognized for this top honor. The winners are selected on their record of stability, growth in employment and sales, financial condition, innovation, response to adversity and community service.
AccuStat EMR is a client of the SC Women’s Business Center and has used the consultation services provided through the program to help her with her business strategy and growth. The Center nominated Deborah for the state award, which then made her eligible for the national award consideration.
"She started out working from her home teaching herself medical transcription in order to have more quality time with her children,” said Sarah Young, Deborah’s business consultant with the S.C. Women's Business Center. AccuStat EMR has since grown to a full electronic medical records consultation company housed in 2,400 square feet of office space, with $2.7 million in annual revenues. AccuStat employs 10 local residents and about 1,000 independent contractors across the country. Clients include hospitals, medical offices and legal firms among others.
“We’re proud of the hard work and commitment that Deborah made to drive her business through good and bad times and to achieve this honor,” said Haidee Stith, director of the center. “AccuStat EMR is an exemplary company, and we’re pleased that our services have helped with her success. Our work with Deborah is typical of the service we provide to any business.”
“AccuStat is a role model for the type of community involvement that exemplifies the criteria for this award,” continued Stith. Deborah has also partnered with Protect.org to develop Sarina's Friends, a nonprofit fund to help parents of sexually-abused children in the Southeast get money for legal fees. Further, Deborah teamed up with the S.C. Vocational Rehabilitation to train disabled and unemployed individuals in transcription and information technology. “It’s this type of focus that we encourage all of our clients to engage in. It’s a known fact that businesses engaged in this type of social responsibility are more successful.”
The SC Community Enterprise Center is one of South Carolina’s leading entrepreneurship resources as it provides training & consulting under the auspices of the SC Women’s Business Center. For aspiring and existing entrepreneurs, the center has proven invaluable in transforming their businesses into successful, wealth-generating enterprises. The center, itself, began servicing the community in 2003, but the Federal program which supports and facilitates all Women’s Business Centers has been helping communities across America since 1988.
